RealUnit Schweiz AG is an independent investment company that invests in a broadly diversified range of performance- and asset-related real assets. The listed company was founded in 2017 and is based in Baar (ZG). Our goal is to replicate Switzerland’s economic growth in the long term and to protect the assets entrusted to us in the best way possible against crises and loss of purchasing power. The RealUnit is backed by performance-oriented and real assets. At least half of the invested assets are held physically and stored safely outside the banking system in Switzerland. Our goal is to offer increased security and crisis resistance and to protect against losses due to inflation or economic and financial crises. The RealUnit was an investment fund in its initial phase. We opted for the current formation of an investment company in order to be able to invest more in assets outside the banking system. Funds must strictly adhere to the predefined restrictions and bandwidths per asset class and can therefore be to inflexible to react effectively to strong market distortions in a crisis. As an investment company, we can implement our investment strategy more flexibly and efficiently in accordance with our investment guidelines and with the aim of better protecting the capital entrusted to us.

  • Over 50% of the total assets are stored outside the banking system in high-security vaults, which we believe better ensures crisis resistance and asset protection.

  • In contrast to an investment fund, our precious metals can be physically stored in Switzerland. This eliminates the issuer risk of a precious metal certificate, and access to the precious metals is usually available even in the event of a crisis.

  • Our cash can also be physically stored in Switzerland. This means that we are not dependent on the banking system and we can thus better ensure access to cash in times of crisis.

  • We can significantly reduce our company holdings in the event of market distortions, or increase them by up to 50%, and hedge against falling prices if necessary. Investment funds, on the other hand, must strictly adhere to the defined bandwidths and are therefore less able to act in a crisis.

  • You have the freedom to choose between shares and share tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. Share tokens can be stored outside the banking system. A wallet provides access independently of third parties (similar to cryptocurrencies).

  • As a shareholder, you have voting rights at the annual general meeting, which you do not have with an investment fund.

The current key figures on return and volatility can be found in our fact sheet at: https://realunit.ch/en/about-us/downloads/. However, past figures are no guarantee of future performance. Our goal is to (at least) match or exceed the Swiss gross national product (GDP) growth with our own performance in order to maintain the purchasing power of our shareholders’ invested capital in the long term.

We do not charge you any fees. The ongoing costs are offset against the return on RealUnit. Our medium-term cost target is 1.2% p.a. When buying or selling the company’s shares through your bank, one-off transaction costs may apply depending on the bank. Details of our cost structure can be found in our audited financial statements, which we publish every six months at https://realunit.ch/en/about-us/downloads/.

As a general rule, you should not make any investments with capital that you will need for other purposes in the next 3 to 5 years. An investment in RealUnit is suitable for investors with a longer-term investment horizon.

Our auditing company Balmer Etienne AG periodically inspects our physical precious metal holdings and verifies their authenticity by taking random samples.

We focus on companies with a solid balance sheet and a reasonable valuation. The business model should also be highly crisis-resistant and the company should pursue a stable, long-term dividend policy.

RealUnit Schweiz AG issues both bearer shares and registered shares. The reason for this is to make the bearer shares available as classic securities via the traditional financial system and the registered shares as Uncertificated Register Securities (share tokens) via the public Ethereum blockchain.

You can find a list of the differences on the following page: https://realunit.ch/en/buy-realunit/

NAV stands for “net asset value”. Also called intrinsic value, it is the sum of the assets minus the liabilities.

The “NAV” reflects the actual value of our company’s assets. Although the share price is based on the “NAV”, it can be higher or lower than the “NAV” depending on the market conditions on the stock exchange (supply and demand).

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about the RealUnit Token

A token is a unit on the blockchain. Our share tokens are registered shares as ledger-based securities on the Ethereum blockchain. As the owner of the RealUnit tokens, you have the same rights as the owner of traditional shares.

  • Access at any time, independent of banks
  • No costs for custody in your own wallet
  • Tradable 24/7
  • Transferable from wallet to wallet
  • Simple online registration for entry in the share register
  • High security thanks to the Ethereum blockchain and the recovery function if the private key is lost

For more information on the security of the stock tokens, please read the RealUnit registration agreement. Available at:

https://realunit.ch/ueber-uns/downloads/#registrierungsvereinbarung

No, because the issuer of the share tokens is RealUnit Schweiz AG, which means it is a centralized structure. Cryptocurrencies are digital assets that are stored in a decentralized database, usually a blockchain, and have no single/central issuer.

No, not in principle. The price of the share token is based on the intrinsic value (NAV) of RealUnit Schweiz AG. The NAV is the “net asset value” (= net asset value of the invested assets). We currently hold <1% of ETH, so it has a minimal impact on the NAV.

According to experts, the Ethereum blockchain is a very secure decentralized network. When you open your own wallet, you receive the private key. This is comparable to the password for your online banking. However, if someone steals your private key, they have access to your wallet. Likewise, if you lose your private key, you will no longer be able to access your wallet. Blockchain experts recommend using hardware wallets such as those from «Ledger» (https://www.ledger.com/de) or «Bitbox» (https://shiftcrypto.ch/de/) securely store larger amounts of money.

You can find instructions on how to purchase at: https://realunit.ch/en/buy-token/

The purchase or sale of share tokens typically comes with blockchain transaction costs (especially “gas fees” on Ethereum), which are generally borne by the purchaser or seller.

The amount of the gas fee on Ethereum can vary greatly depending on the network utilization levels of the blockchain (the current gas fee can be seen here). Before initiating the transaction, your wallet should also show an estimate of the gas fee you are likely to be charged. If the gas fee is too high, we recommend that you carry out the transaction at a later time.

No, a conversion is not possible. However, you can sell your traditional shares on the stock exchange and buy share tokens for the equivalent in CHF via our automatic trading platform at https://realunit.ch/token-kaufen/#brokerbot.

The counterparty is RealUnit Schweiz AG. If you would like to trade share tokens worth more than CHF 100,000, please contact us in advance via info@realunit.ch or Tel. +41 41 761 00 90.

The share tokens can be stored in an Ethereum-enabled wallet. You can find instructions on how to set up a wallet at the following link.

Yes, the tokenized RealUnit registered shares must be declared as assets in the tax return. Any capital gains are generally tax-free for private individuals in Switzerland. You can find more detailed information on taxation here, in Circular No. 36 of the ESTV.
